Location
We are located in Elk Area #12, which has one of the highest populations of elk in the state of Colorado. However, the best part is that it has been managed for trophy bulls for 20 years. Only bulls with at least 4 points on one antler or better are legal. We are extremely happy with this management. Our hunters have the opportunity to take real trophies. In 2007 we caped 6 of our bulls for mounting and also caped 1 of our bucks for mounting. That same year we had 20 hunters who collected a total of 23 animals, and we also had 7 bulls and 4 bucks that were missed!

Buying Tags, etc.
During the 2nd and 3rd hunts, your elk tags can be bought over the counter at any sporting goods store in Colorado the day prior to the season opening. On the 1st and 4th hunts, licenses will have to be applied for in advance. I will purchase the licenses for you if you so desire. I will need a copy of your driver's license, copy of your hunters safety card if you were born after 1948, and the appropriate fee for the license(s) you desire.

Schedule your arrival...
On all hunts I would like to have the hunters in camp no later than noon the day prior to your hunt.

How do we hunt?
Most of our high ranch hunting is done from horseback and predetermined stands. There are many natural saddles in the mountains where the game regularly cross and also major trails that see regular use. There are also many canyons and areas where we put the hunters on stand and then push the brush and timber to enable the hunters to get a shot. Normally during the later hunts we can expect lots of snow and some pretty cold temperatures. During the late seasons, the deer and elk are normally migrating off the Flat Tops, and some tremendous bucks and bulls are headed for their winter range.

What I will provide...
Arrival Arrangements     If you were to fly in, we will pick you up at the Hayden airport.

Accommodations     Our base camp consists of a 3 bedroom mountain lodge with hot and cold running water, indoor restroom, shower, wood stove heat, bunks with mattresses, blankets, pillows, and ample kitchen facilities. In 1992 we added an additional cabin with 3 bedrooms and another shower/bath.

Guides     There will be a guide for every two hunters unless prior arrangements are made.

Game/Hunter Transportation   I will have saddle and pack horses and two four-wheel drive vehicles for game and hunter transportation.

Game Processing   All gutting, caping, and quartering will be done by us if you so desire. There is an excellent processing plant in Craig, CO. If you wish to get your game processed professionally we will take it to the processor for you.

Wholesome Fixin's   We will provide good wholesome food to include: steaks, roasts, pork chops, and chicken in the evening, a hearty mountain breakfast, and a sack lunch for noon.
